The Plantronics DSP range represents a major leap in pricing, but do you get a major leap in quality? The answer really is both yes and no, and much depends on what you plan to use the headset for. Certainly if you have a Mac and want a Plantronics headset you will need a DSP model.
The DSP range needs to be installed using software called PerSono, provided with the headset. Using this software you can fine-tune the bass, treble and speaker balance. This makes these headsets great for listening to music and playing games, but it is not really necessary for just making calls. All the DSP models also come with a USB adaptor so you can use the headphone at the same time as your speakers.
As for the actual sound quality, computer-to-computer was not really that different to the Plantronics Audio range, however, when calling mobiles and landlines there did seem to be a slight improvement.
The major problem with the DSP-100 model is that it only has one headphone speaker. This makes it both slightly uncomfortable to wear, and obviously limits sound quality — why buy a headset designed for music and gaming with only one speaker? You only get half the effect. Although it is cheaper than the other two DSP models, it probably makes better sense to spend the extra and get a headset with two speakers.
